From Daniel
This is very nice, although some of us already have an answer to the question "Why are we not able to imagine other personalities to converse with?" I seem to have spent some time working on this problem... as did Timmy Leary, who understood that we had abandoned outer-space exploration for inner-space immersion.
If post-Singularity civilisations simply give up on exploring or talking to outer space and spend all their time wanking in the Matrix instead, which is why we don't see any signs of advanced alien races.)

I think we've done this already: we're no longer exploring space but playing GTA IV and Warhammer instead! (Vis. my latest rant about the Phoenix Lander!)

"Why are other animals not able to communicate with us, or even with each other at more than a very basic level? Why do our brains start out so apparently blank, when other animals can function at birth?

This is exactly the question that Chocky asks his child host in John Wyndham's visionary little novel of that name. I still think his model of space travel is the one that's going to work out in the long run.
