    iPod halp!
I have an 80gb iPod classic and every time I plug it into my Macbook to sync it, the iPod itself crashes. I've checked the apple website and tried googling it but to no avail - the only things I can find are about iTunes crashing. Instead of it saying 'connected', it freezes on the last track I was playing and won't respond until you reset it by holding the centre and menu buttons. After I reset it, I can plug it in and it works fine - it just seems to be the first time that it happens which makes it more of an annoyance than anything else.

I got it for Christmas last year and it has been fine until now, I've only noticed this happening in the past week or so... was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of how to fix it? It's still under warranty, so is it worth taking it to the apple store for them to look at it?

    Birth control is NOT abortion.
I've mentioned this issue here before, but it's worthwhile to make our voices heard through as many channels as possible.

    From MoveOn.Org here:
Can you imagine living in a place where birth control is considered an "abortion" and health insurers won't cover it? Where even rape victims are denied emergency contraception?

It seems unbelievable, but the Bush Administration is quietly trying to redefine "abortion" to include birth control. The Houston Chronicle says this could wipe out dozens of state laws that protect women's reproductive freedom and protect rape victims. This "rule change" doesn't need congressional approval.

Can you sign an emergency message to Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt, whose department is considering this rule change right now? We'll pass your signature and information to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which will deliver the signatures to Leavitt. They'll be able to follow up with you on this issue.

    Journal clients
I switched from Windows to Mac one year ago and the only real regret I have is having to give up Semagic for my journals.  Having the LJ Login add on for Firefox helps (allowing me to switch identities for RPG and such), but I still miss my client.

Does anyone here use a client to post?  If so, which one?

I've tried XJournal and didn't like it.  I've tried Deepest Sender (for Firefox) and didn't like that either.  Has anyone used Ecto?  If so, what is your opinion?

I would love for the makers of Semagic to make a version for Mac, but, barring that, I'm looking for a client as similar as I can get.

    Thanks in advance.

    Dan Savage Love
Since the syndicated feed [info]dansavage seems to be pointing to the wrong place, and I can't find the right URL to get it pointing to the right place (not that I'm in charge of that RSS feed), I created one for the podcasts:

    [info]savagelovecast

Savage Love is a sex advice column written by gay advice columnist Dan Savage. If anyone can manage to update the [info]dansavage feed to point to the right place, I'd be much obliged as well!

    Creative new advertisement from WeCanSolveIt.org
This ad will be airing on Monday during the Olympics. It's creative, and it makes the point that we all must participate if this crisis is to be averted.

Real change can happen real fast. We can strengthen our economy, lower fuel costs, free ourselves from our addiction to oil, and help solve the climate crisis. We can do this by switching to clean, free energy sources like the wind and sun -- and to do it within 10 years. Meeting this ambitious goal would create millions of new jobs, lead to permanently lower energy costs for families and help America lead the fight against global warming.

More than a million people are standing up for solutions. Please join them and sign our petition today:

“America must commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and other clean sources within 10 years.”

    As Al Gore says:
[...] Today I challenge our nation to commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.

This goal is achievable, affordable and transformative. It represents a challenge to all Americans - in every walk of life: to our political leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, engineers, and to every citizen.

A few years ago, it would not have been possible to issue such a challenge. But here's what's changed: the sharp cost reductions now beginning to take place in solar, wind, and geothermal power - coupled with the recent dramatic price increases for oil and coal - have radically changed the economics of energy. Less than thirty minutes
It took less than half an hour for LJ to privatize my request about "Increased limits for Basic accounts." (I'm not surprised; they've ignored the request I made four months ago on the topic.)

http://www.livejournal.com/support/see_request.bml?id=907482 & auth =xwjk (Remove spaces to see request; IJ's coding removes auth bits otherwise). Full text:
At the announcement of the 100-day plan at http://community.livejournal.com/lj_2008/1794.html, one of the features promised was "Increase certain limits for Basic and Plus accounts." The new post in lj_2008 mentions increased userpics for Plus, but nothing about Basic accounts.

Which limits have been or will be increased for Basic accounts?
Any bets on ever getting an answer to that one? Or will it wait a few days until they release info about the new ad-supported Basic accounts, and claim that there are "increased limits" somewhere in there? (We know a lot of you have been awaiting our decision on Basic Accounts, so watch this space for an announcement August 14, 2008. Any changes to Basic Accounts will also affect how we deal with Basic Communities, so you can also expect an update on that.)

Why I am such a cynical pessimist
Because every time I believe in someone, they let me down. It's better to just not expect anything of people. Yes, I am talking about John Edwards. By now, you know the story, so I won't repeat it.

[info]lasarina pointed out this to me just now. It's so totally apropos.

STYX - "Show Me The Way"
Every night I say a prayer in the hope that there's a heaven
And every day I'm more confused as the saints turn into sinners
All the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay
And I feel this empty place inside so afraid that I've lost my faith
